Running any mulching head, pretty much overloads any brand or model of CTL. Even the ones with upgraded hydraulics and a forestry package. In hot weather, the hydraulics WILL overheat when running a mulching head flat out. So, having said this, I would go with a dedicated mulcher if you buy anything.
A forum thread where a user shares a financial model for a forestry mulching business in PA and gets feedback from other users. The thread discusses the costs, revenues, rates, and challenges of the mulching operation. I'm looking for advice on the best skid steer to buy to use in swampy, muddy, mucky conditions where it's easy to get stuck. Will be using a boom mower, a brush axe, and a 6-way blade. Would like to stay 30k or under for a good used machine. Looking for advice on wheeled or tracked, best brands for the money.

Guys-I have a new Cat 299D2 XHP I bought for mulching. I am looking at heads and would like some input. I have a larger forestry machine with a Fecon head (which is admittedly older) and have done a demo with an FAE head. Fecon is going to bring me a skid steer head to demo. I was planning to go.
Gudday all, I am looking for advice on skid steer tree mulching attachment. Due to the hills I will be working on I have eliminated fitting a mulcher onto my digger and looking at the skid steer method. I am going to look at a Mustang . I'd imagine it's similar to a PTO rototiller. 3.6 MPH is way too fast. The best tractors for mulchers have creeper gears with several speeds below 1 MPH. I'd also worry about the hydraulic oil getting too hot with a high flow constant use motor. They work good on skid steers because you can creep along very slowly at full throttle. i have a Skid Steer Rotary Brush Cutter ( brush master ) in think that is the name that takes standard flow and it works great on grass and blackberry's and i have chopped up to 4 inch trees Click to expand.
Those full width skid steer mounted ones look like they would be hard on the machine. The mulchers on excavators seem like the way to go as long as the head is sized for the flow and cooling capacity available. It would not take a very big mulcher to whack down a bunch of stuff. I kind of dream of a 4-5 ton mini with a little mulcher.
Was planing on adding that, steering and hydraulic distributors have their own pumps, but this main pump will still have to raise and lower mulcher head. But i was maybe thinking to limit oil flow for raising and lowering mulcher, some 10-20 gal/min(40-80l/min) for that operation while loader is paired with mulcher only, with some valves,or idk,i . here’s specific one. iowa farmer.
