It provides the oil for the hydrostatic drives under the seat as well as the loader functions. It has a splined coupler between it and the engine. Worn coupler and/or pump splines is a common problem on these older machines
I was wondering if the drive motors and the "control box" and pumps (sorry if some wrong terms) are the types of thing that basically either work or do not work? In other words, does their performance have a slow decline and should I rebuild or replace them? Does anyone know if I can swap my 1840's hydraulic pump for a 40XT or even a 60XT or 75XT hydraulic pump? They all have a 7/8" 13 spline shaft. The 1840 puts out 15 gpm, the 40XT flows 19 gpm, and the 60/75XT pumps out 21 gpm.
