I'm looking for advice on the best skid steer to buy to use in swampy, muddy, mucky conditions where it's easy to get stuck. Will be using a boom mower, a brush axe, and a 6-way blade. Would like to stay 30k or under for a good used machine. Looking for advice on wheeled or tracked, best. the < 74hp machines with radial lift are the lowest incidence of warranty claims we see in the shop among the skid steers and CTLs. make sure the machine your buying has high flow or enhanced high flow hydraulics, and you'll want a cab for any kind of brush cutter / forestry mulcher applications. The machine was owned by J. H. Reid from South Plainfield, NJ, is in very good condition, comes with the clearing rake and a standard bucket. The price is a little high, the dealer paid ,000 for it on Iron Planet. I have a 977L and it is great for clearing trees and brush up to 36" diameter, push them over and cut the stumps off. They were common only on track loaders going back to Drott, somewhat seen on backhoes, some places. Skid steers usually have a standard bucket, and then a grapple bucket of some sort, and then all the other attachments. 4 in 1 buckets were mostly leap frogged on skid steers, the grapple buckets come in so many varieties that they're way more .

To me if you are tending to large fields or farming get a tractor. If you are up keeping property and have less than an acre or so to plow maybe you can get by with just a skid steer. Skid steers can prepare land for later use with a tractor. Here is a little clearing i made recently. It took 2 days to make with a skid steer. Gave up on that POS and replaced it with a 2012 Case TR270 that's got to be getting close to 1200hrs+ by now. Also traded the Gehl V400 skid for a Case 321E mini wheel loader. The farm ran Gehl skid steers for years, 7800's, 7810's the V400, the RT210, I believe a couple 5640's or 6640's and the last batch of the V400 and the Rt210 did it for them. I havent done or scene it but I got a buddy who works for the power company. I rember him saying they have a special trailer for the skid steer meant to pull telphone pulls to the middle of the fields. As BIGcatT870 mentioned some weight in the front might help. Or at least I would imigane some sort of ballast. Of all the Skid Steers on the Market who make the Best. I know this questions is loaded.
